Annabelle Summers Bates
Annabelle Summers Bates, Coquille/Klamath was born at Klamath Agency September, 8. 1927 to Frank and Angeline Walker Summers. She died in Klamath Falls, OR June 15, 2019.
She was an enrolled member of the Klamath Tribes and grew up on the Klamath Indian Reservation. She attended Chemewa Indian School and graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology with an Associate’s Degree.
Annabelle was a strong advocate against termination and traveled around the country explaining the negative effects termination had on Indian people. She protested at Alcatraz with Cornwall and was an active member of AIM (American Indian Movement).
She worked at various jobs during her lifetime, ranching, cook, job counseling and coordinating with both the State of Oregon and the California Indian Manpower Consortium. Annabelle was an ordained minister and did missionary work among the Navaho Indians in Arizona and New Mexico. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and was a true prayer warrior.
Annabelle is survived by her children Corrine and Tina of Susanville, California; Nola of Klamath Falls, Charlie and Lisa of Chiloquin, Oregon and Sherrie of Old Town, Idaho. 24 Grandchildren and 58 great children, 20 great great grandchildren.
*Services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. Williamson Christian Fellowship Church, Hwy 62, Chiloquin Or with interment at Wilson Cemetery.
