Klamath Tribes to Consider Filing KBRA Dispute Initiation Notice
Chiloquin, OR – The Klamath Tribal Council and Klamath Tribes Negotiation Team (KTNT) have
scheduled a series of Tribal community meetings to update Klamath Tribal members on the status of
the Klamath Basin Adjudication, the status of Senate Bill 133 which provides legislation to
authorize and implement the Klamath Basin Agreements (KBRA, KHSA and UKBCA as approved by tribal referendum vote), and the current status of the potential Mazama Forest acquisition. One of the main purposes of the meetings is to receive input from Tribal members as to whether it is in the Klamath Tribes best interest to file a Dispute Initiation Notice as provided for in Section 6.5 and 7.6 of the KBRA.

The Klamath Tribes have 4,838 enrolled Tribal members, many of whom reside outside of Klamath County. In order to ensure broad Tribal citizen input, community meetings have been scheduled at
the Portland Doubletree Inn on February 9, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm, at the University of Oregon Longhouse in Eugene on February 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, in the Klamath Tribes Administration Building in Chiloquin from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, and at the Shilo Inn in Klamath Fall from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 13. Written notices of these meetings have been posted in the Klamath Tribal offices, on the Klamath Tribes’ website, Facebook, sent by email and direct mailing, and will be published in the Herald and News, Nickel, and Klamath News to inform interested Tribal members of the meetings and help ensure maximum participation.

The Klamath Tribal Council and KTNT have scheduled the community meetings to ensure that Tribal members have an opportunity to be fully informed as to the Dispute Initiation Notice process, and other pertinent issues, in preparation for the Regular General Council Meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28 at the Klamath Tribes Administration Building in Chiloquin. All enrolled Tribal members are encouraged to attend the community meetings and the General Council meeting.
