COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Program Update

The purpose of this update is to provide clarification to the COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Program that has been established to prevent, respond to, and prepare for COVID-19.  The funding for this program is through the CARES Act.

In an effort to comply with ever changing regulations that are attached to the CARES Act funding, we have implored our Tribal Administration staff to develop the program guidelines to operate a fair and equitable program.   The initial program guidelines and application process is designed to provide emergency assistance to our most vulnerable and needy population.

As mentioned above, the spending regulations applied to the CARES Act funding are not clear and the audit and legal opinions do not provide definite guidance.  We do know that the interpretation of the regulations are constantly changing at a rapid pace by the Federal Government.

As you begin to receive your COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Program application, please do not be discouraged with the eligibility requirements.  We encourage all Tribal Members to apply.  With the constant change to regulations, this will be closely monitored so that revisions can be made to our program that allows more flexibility with assistance.

At this time, we will not be requiring a wage printout from the Employment Office for proof of “no income”.  This would place our membership in an unsafe environment and potential exposure to the COVID virus.

To address the immediate need, Tribal Administration has dedicated an Intake Specialist to work on providing assistance and processing applications.  Ms. Shanti Treetop, Intake Specialist may be reached at 541-783-2219, ext.  200 or by email: shanti.treetop@klamathtribes.com.  The intake process will include assisting membership with the application process applying fair and equitable criteria.

Tribal Council and Tribal Administration are working together to develop and administer an efficient intake process to provide immediate assistance to our membership.

Your comments and suggestions have been heard and we encourage you to reach out to our Intake Specialist for specific questions on the application and other services that you may be eligible for.

We encourage continued feedback from you so that we can always improve upon our service deliverables.
