May grew up on the F.M. Challis Farm/Ranch in Hildebrand, Ore., with her six sisters Vera, Verla, Anne, Virginia, Carol and Frankie. May was involved with FFA, 4-H and the cheerleading team at Bonanza High School, where she graduated in 1952. She met the love of her life Irwin Lee Crume Sr. while attending Bonanza High School, where the couple won Homecoming King and Queen. The happy couple was married July 18, 1952, and began to start their family while Irwin attended college at Oregon Technical Institute. They were blessed with six beautiful children. The family moved to Sprague River, living on the Crume Ranch until the passing of her husband. May then moved to Klamath Falls and worked for Bentley’s Flower Shop and then XL Cleaners until her retirement. May possessed a contagious smile and was known for her genuine compassion for others. She always prided herself on not knowing a stranger. After her retirement, May lived with and was lovingly cared for by her daughter Carrie until her passing. May’s other children and grandchildren also assisted with her care, ensuring she was always comfortable and happy. She was a huge “Rip City” fan who always cheered for the Portland Trailblazers and also loved her Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. She loved gardening, always having a beautiful array of blossoms during the summer, trying new recipes and perfecting the old ones, telling stories of family history and memories, watching her favorite daytime televisions shows, drinking coffee and also visiting with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Irwin Crume Sr.; parents Lefty and Tilly Challis; aunt Virginia Heuvel; sisters Vera Challis, Verla Nelson, Anne Curran and Carol Pugh; and special niece Susan Kohn. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Frankie and Roy Hill; sister Virginia Reddard; brother-in-law Butch Crume; special cousin Coke Crume; children Irwin “Sonner” Crume Jr., Carrie Walker, Arnold Crume, Gwen and Aaron Smith, Greg Crume, and Doug and Nance Crume; grandchildren Teena Walker, Aaron Lee Crume and Nick Beyer, Evan Crume, Lacey Crume, Loren Crume, Raquel Smith, Coby Crume and Hailey Paxton, Deserrea Crume, Cherokee Richardson, and Cody Richardson; great-grandchildren Jordan Stewart and Colby Bechtel, Ryan Stewart and Karyssa Gomez, Payton Crume, Landon Crume and Myleigh Crume; special friends Jesse Redfox and Robert Kohn; and her pet Ozzy.
