Word of the Day

dic mbosant nanokens!

(Good morning everyone!)

gen waytas lapniks gi.

(Today is Tuesday)

Today I would like to talk about the verb: somalwa. somalwa means: to write, draw, make designs, scratch on rocks.

gen waytas=today

ni=I

somalwa=write

So, putting it all into a sentence, we get: gen waytas ni somalwa. Today I am writing.

As with every verb, we can make several nouns from it.

somalwa + -is suffix means the person who does the action of the verb

ni=I

somalwis=writer

gi=is, was, were, are, am, have, had, get, got.

So, putting it all together into a sentence, we get: ni somalwis gi. I am a writer.

somalwa + -as suffix the action of the verb as a noun. We get that by adding the suffix in English -ing to the verb. write + -ing= writing

ni=I

somalwas=writing

dicewa=-like

So, putting it all together into a sentence, we get: ni somalwas dicewa. I like writing.

The third noun is made by adding the suffix -otkis to the verb. This means the tool or instrument used to do the action of the verb. somalwotkis means: a pencil, pen, marker, scratch awl.

ni=I

somalwotkis+ marker

gi=is, was, were, are, am, have, had, get, got.

So putting it all together into a sentence, we get: ni somalwotkis gi. I have a marker.

Take a verb and add the same suffixes. You will get nouns. Make sentences with the new nouns and try to use the sentence today.
