Dear Klamath Tribal Members,
CARES Act Funding Notice
As part of the Klamath Tribes response to the COVID-19 pandemic we received CARES Act funding to mitigate some of the impact to the tribe.
What is the CARES Act?
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, is a law meant to address the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The United States Congress through the Department of the Treasury set aside $8 billion for Indian Tribes.
How much did the Klamath Tribes get awarded?
On May 7, 2020, The Klamath Tribes received $31,728,000 through the CARES Act.
What can the funding be spent on?
The CARES Act requires that the payments from the Coronavirus Relief Fund only be used to cover expenses that are necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID–19); were not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020 (the date of enactment of the CARES Act) for the Tribal government; and were incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020, and ends on December 30, 2020.
The Tribal Council will review and approve a spending plan that is being developed. Once approved information will be provided to tribal members on how this funding will be utilized.
Can Tribal Members receive financial assistance?
Members experiencing hardships directly related to the Coronavirus outbreak, should fill out the Klamath Tribes COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Emergency Assistance application (see attached).
