Culture & Heritage Committee
The purpose of the Culture and Heritage Committee is to advise and make recommendations to the Klamath Tribal Chairman and the Tribal Council regarding identification, preservation and protection of the traditional culture and heritage of the Klamath and Modoc Tribes and Yahooskin Band of Snake Indians. The Committee will provide a unified voice as an advisory arm of the Klamath Tribes.
Mission Statement – To assist the Klamath Tribes Tribal Council and the Culture and Heritage Director on the formulation of general Tribal policies governing culture and heritage preservation, enhancement and development. Provide advice to the Culture and Heritage Director on Tribal heritage preservation and enhancement programs and activities including a program for the preservation of the Klamath, Modoc and Yahooskin Band of the Snake Indians languages. Provide advice regarding a program for identification and protection of archaeological and other cultural resources, and in developing a system to ensure federal, state and private compliance with statutes, executive orders, etc… Designed to protect, preserve, and enhance the spiritual, cultural, and physical values and resources of the Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin Peoples by maintaining the customs and heritage of our ancestors.
Provide advice to the Culture and Heritage Director and the Tribal Council on the development of general policies governing the planning, establishment and operation of a Tribal museum.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of a plan with the Tribal Council approval, for the acquisition of artifacts and other cultural materials to be displayed in the museum.
