Hiring Practices

Indian Preference: The Klamath Tribes have an Indian Preference policy, as do most tribes. The Indian Preference policy allows Native Americans who meet the qualifications for the position preference. The policy does not mean that only Indians will be hired. In fact, The Tribes employ many non-Indian employees.

Criminal background investigations: Background investigations are required for some positions at Tribal Administration. Having a former criminal record may not keep you from applying for positions. Each position notes what type of background is required. The highest level is the P.L. 101-630 background which prohibits, persons with 2 or more misdemeanor convictions and/or a felony conviction of a crime against persons to work in positions that have contact with children and/or elders. Positions that have access to confidential information or financial information require background investigations to determine suitability for employment.
See Background and Character Investigation Policy.
