Word Of the Day

Today we will look at a verbal suffix. It says a lot what life was like for our ancestors. They had a way of asking “Please.”

This suffix goes onto any verb. It is the suffix -ank.

This is one place on the list of getting someone to do something.

Let’s take the verb “celga.” This verb means to sit.

When attached this verb is: celgank=Please sit.

celgank, i gejiga. Please sit, you are tired.

It can also express  some firmness and still be polite. When attached to: gena=go the final “a” vowel is dropped because the verbs ending in an “n” behave differently.

genank! Please go!

It can be a polite request.

ciyank. Please stay.
