PROCLAMATION OF THE KLAMATH, MODOC, AND YAHOOSKIN BAND OF SNAKE INDIANS
WHEREAS, The Klamath Tribes recognizes that American Indian and Alaska Native people are
at a disproportionate risk of experiencing violence, murder, or going missing and make up a significant portion of the missing and murdered cases;
and
WHEREAS, The Klamath Tribes understand the MMIP crisis is prevalent across the United States, with Indigenous peoples being murdered at a rate 10 times the national average. According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, homicide is the second highest rate of death among American Indian and Alaska Native people;
and
WHEREAS, The Klamath Tribes wil work with local, state, and national agencies to support Klamath Tribal Members and Descendants who are Missing or Murdered;
and
WHEREAS, The Klamath Tribes believe it is important to remember, honor, and respect those relatives that are missing and murdered, provide resources to families to bring resolution to their loved one’s disappearance, and try to assist in the healing process. We also must work to bring awareness to the prevention of this epidemic;
and
WHEREAS, Therefore, we call upon al Tribal citizens, law enforcement, tribal organizations, health officials and all Tribal programs to speak out against violence and actively support local efforts ni Indian Country to assist our relatives who are survivors of violence to be safe and live their lives free. To hold abusers and systems accountable, and to return our Nation to ways of respect and honor.

WHEREAS, We as the Klamath Tribes Honor MMIP, represent The Klamath Tribes, Klamath Tribal Health, MMIP Ad Hoc Committee and Klamath Tribes Restoration.

WHEREAS, that we stand united in our commitments to end al forms of violence ni Indian Country and the Tribal ancestral home of the Klamath Tribes.
